A classic Cuban cigar, the Montecristo #2! My sample was aged about 2 years, while Chris had the six months rest stick. Before we commence our date with the flame, I sample the aroma coming off this beauty. There is a noticeable hay aroma on both the wrapper and foot, and barely any flavor is noted during the prelight draw. This wrapper is very light and dry, the oils are well dissipated (Note Picture in Chris's Post).
It starts off with a light toast flavor, extremely mellow. At the halfway point there is a bitterness and the experience that reminds me of a propane grill ruined meal. You've got to really concentrate on the pull to make this burn at just the right temp to elicit any good flavor, otherwise you're in for an unwelcome bitterness.
Unfortunately, the taste is either hit or miss and is too hard to smoke, taking up too much effort to pull on it just right. The aroma is phenomenal and the final third is worthy, but medium bodied still. I experienced fewer burn issues than did Chris. 7 out of 10.
